Systemic treatment

Systemic treatment is used with patients suffering from moderate to severe psoriasis and where the disease cannot be managed sufficiently by applying topical treatments and/or phototherapy. Conventional systemic treatment is used primarily. Sometimes patients do not respond to the systemic treatment, and sometimes contraindications prohibit their use. In such cases biological treatment is prescribed.

Conventional and biological medicine treatment is monitored by the dermatologist who regulatory monitors laboratory markers.

Conventional systemic therapies

Patients receive systemic conventional therapy in the form of tablets or subcutaneous injections. They have an immunosuppressive effect and are also effective when treating psoriatic arthritis.
